MedSTEM Explorers

Rush Medical University

In this six-week, paid summer pre-internship program at Rush University Medical Center, rising high school sophomores and juniors explore careers in STEM and health care, developing academic and workplace skills and researching real-world health issues in their Chicago communities. Students who succeed as MedSTEM Explorers will be considered for the MedSTEM Pathways internship program.

Program Components

Primary Areas of Focus
  • Recruitment (i.e. increasing awareness of and/or stimulating interest in health profession careers and degree programs
  • Academic preparation (e.g., increasing STEM knowledge
Desired Outcomes

MedSTEM Explorers builds confidence, job readiness and leadership skills. In addition to skills development for higher education and careers, students will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials such as first aid/CPR.

  • Socio-economically disadvantaged
    Preferred students (not required) to attend or be applicable for at least one of the following: Crane Medical Preparatory Juarez Community Academy Instituto Health Sciences Academy North Grand High School Michele Clark Magnet Previous participant of the SAME Network program Engaged with one of our community partners Be from the Rush Anchor Communities (60607, 60608, 60612, 60622, 60624, 60639, 60644, 60647, 60651, 60302, 60303, or 60305)
